Blue Ambulance Comic Book Event

Hey Guys,

Since early this year, Nathan has been quietly slaving away on a new art project that has pushed the limits of his creative ability to a new level. Now he's pleased to announce that the self-published 1st issue of Blue Ambulance has been made available via Etsy. This limited run of 50 copies was put on sale April 14th for a short period of time, but more copies will be made available if demand warrants it. Nathan has pulled out all the stops with this puppy so make sure you are one of the first to get it on the ground floor!

Te following is a short description of what you'll find within the pages:

The first issue of an ongoing comic book series by Writer/Artist Nathan Anderson. Blue Ambulance is a mysterious tale with a shifting dreamlike narrative. Each of the books follow two main characters as they encounter each other in sometimes humorous and violent ways.

I'm selling it through Etsy.com in a hope to make enough so that I can make more. If you know me you know I love being creative and in honor of my first true passion for art I wanted to write and draw my very own comic book.

A brief writeup we submitted on our terrific experience screening Black at the Action On Film festival has just seen print in the latest issue of Moviemaker Magazine. In the review I offer a few thoughts on the setting, content and overall mission of the event and how its unique vision works to counterbalance the Hollywood system. I was very inspired by what Del Weston and his team are doing over in Pasadena every year and was glad to have the opportunity to spread the word on such an exciting voice in the LA filmmaking community. Issue #89 is on newstands right now and should be available in most major bookstores this week (for reference, our one page article is on page 106). Hope you are having a great to your November!

Black @ Action on Film

On Wednesday July 28th, I felt like an era had ended when Black had its Southland premiere at the Action on Film Festival in Pasadena. Nathan and I were able to catch up with our lead actors Robert and Seriina and watch the film with a great group of family and friends. I want to thank everyone for taking the time out of their lives to not only watch the film, but talk with us about it. Just the day before I realized that this coming labor day will mark 3 years since we all made the 15 + hour drive to Oregon and shot for 7 arduous, humbling, and for me, life changing days. It was there that I realized that I still wanted to make films as an adult and it was there that I promised myself I'd make it a constant in my life.

During the Q&A that followed our screening, someone asked us to give the time-line of what it took to make Black. At first I was sort of amazed by the process as we related it. We shot it in 2007 and edited the damn thing for 8 months during the winter of 2008. During that time I lost both of my Grandparents and went through a crazy period of self-doubt that I couldn't believe was still possible after achieving what I felt was the best film Jason, Nate and I had ever been a part of. In my day to day wrestle with Black during that time, I learned that your art is intricately woven with your life in mysterious and oftentimes surprising ways.

Watching Black again the other night, I realized that without knowing it, I (I can't speak for the other guys) was coming to grips with major life changes in my own creative way, and that is why I still love the movie despite the fact that there are things in it I would never do again. Through my own creative process I found a means of answering the bleak questions I was asking myself at the time about death, what it means to share your life with someone and ultimately about the fear that can keep us from truly living in the moment.

As the three of us go forward with the next project, I can only hope that our experience in the coming year feels as RIGHT as those long days we spent on that harsh, beautiful coast. I was never more tired in my life, but I don't know if I was ever happier either. I think we all experienced one of those rare moments where we really didn't have to do something yet did it anyway because we simply had to. That's a damn rare achievement.

Self-doubt is still something I work with every day. Even now as we complete the first phase of our next great adventure in the world there are still days when there's nothing to keep me going other than the daily conviction that we simply HAVE to do it. That's what it means to follow your intuition and that's why I have to thank Jason, Nate, Robert, Seriina, Kevin, Jenny, Kathy and Jered for making Black with me. I'll never forget it.

I'm not sure of AOF marks the end of Black's festival run, but it was a great way to round out a solid year and a half of screenings. We are now going headlong into Northstar, a feature film that will up the ante for us in every possible way. We can't wait to show you more in the coming months, and I hope anyone who is reading this knows we are grateful for the support and help that has allowed us to chip away at our dream. We'll talk to you soon!

Lullskull Ltd. Co-produces Music Video with Mtv Artist

During this month of June, Lullskull Ltd. had the pleasure of working with recording artist Chino Maurice, and was invited to co-produce his latest music video for his song Luna. The video was shot over the course of a day and a half at the Astoria Bowl, in Astoria, Queens, NY. The theme of the video involves Chino, a bowling alley attendant, saving a lonely dancer, Luna, from the clutches of a menacing boyfriend. The video was Executive Produced by Chino Maurice, his label C-Funk, produced by Jason Hagen, for Lullskull Ltd., directed by Mandela Gregoire, with cinematography/co-directing by Michael Dispenza. Production design was by Mary Frederickson of Wang & Frederickson.

Look out for the video to premiere on Mtv in the coming weeks. Chino's previous music video Oh My Lord is currently playing on MtvU, as well as across the Internet.

Although its an early acceptance call, we received word today that BLACK will be screening at the 2010 Action on Film Festival, Pasadena, CA over July 23-30th. Nathan, Seth, and Jason are so extremely thrilled and excited to be able to share this work with all of you, and really hope that you will be able to attend this awesome festival at the end of July! This is the official California premiere of BLACK.

Festival download: 2010 NW Projections

Update from NW Projections 2010

Producer Jason Hagen and Executive Producer Jason McCue were able to attend the 2010 NW Projections Film Festival's second day April 18th. They attended the Narrative shorts program at noon and were very impressed with the screening of BLACK. Both picture and sound were fantastic. The screening room held about 50-60 people at capacity, and about 15-20 people attended the program. Not a bad turn out overall. Prior to the screening, the Jasons were greeted by an old friend Elijah Tiegs who used to live in Los Angeles with Jason Hagen. Elijah was the production designer of The Merciful Death of Jonas Blake and now resides in the Seattle area.

All of the work that was screened was from WA or the surrounding Pacific Northwest. BLACK was filmed in Oregon, and thus qualified. One of the works that really stood out in the program was by Scott Ballard titled Last Night, Long Ago, a narrative about a elderly woman having to come to the decision to save or let go certain memories. Very well made.

Overall we look forward to attending another NW Projections and hope to screen there in the future. Festival Director Wilson Large is doing great things with the festival; showing unseen cinema and bringing industry professionals to the small town of Bellingham to discuss the industry and their particular professions.

Lullskull Ltd. Co-produces Music Video for NYC band At Sea

On January 16th and 17th, 2010 Lullskull Ltd. co-produced a music video for the song "Low Light" for NYC-based band At Sea. Lullskull Ltd. worked as the production arm during the video, and worked with executive producer (and lead singer) Jason Brody under his Soap Media banner. The video was directed by Kevin F. Tully, produced by Jason Hagen, associate produced/acted by Persiana Cota, shot by Alex Schwerin, with illustration work provided by Nathan Anderson.

Lullskull Ltd. and Soap Media collaborated with NYC production designer Mary Frederickson for all production design and art direction. Mary's attention to detail and period art direction gave the video its much needed production value, while allowing producers to work within a low budget. The theme of the video is a take on Cold-War hysteria and is shot in the vain of Atomic Cafe and A-bomb propaganda films.

During the 2-day shoot, Unrated NYC was on set capturing photos of the production. Here is a link to blog coverage of the shoot and production photos.

The Daily Astorian, Astoria, Oregon's newspaper has written a feature on the 2009 Astoria International Film Festival, and its featured in the arts supplement CoastWeekend.

Along with a write up of some of the films that screened at the festival October 16th-18th, a photo of our latest short film BLACK is shown in the feature.

Although, we were not able to attend the festival, we hope the screening of BLACK had a great attendance and was received well. We thank Kathleen Strecker, editor of CoastWeekend, for including a still of our film in the write up.

New York City Premiere of Black

I wanted to post a few words about our first East Coast screening of Black. It went extremely well and in my opinion it was the best presentation of our film. The picture and sound were notably of the highest quality. We played in the larger of the two theaters that the Anthology Film Archives have there. The building itself feels historic. A beloved Avant Garde cinema house that feels rich with history of when it was Manhattan's 2nd street courthouse building.

Everyone we invited showed up and we had a good group of people watching the other films in our program. I did not get to see the film that played just before us but I did hear it was laced with nudity and outrageous behavior. So I'm confident everyone was awake and in good spirits as our film played.

I would like to thank all the support from the Anthology film chairs. In particular Barney Oldfield who went out of his way in making us feel welcome and supporting both of our early films. We felt honored to be apart of summer festival.

Here's the last video that will trace how we made BLACK back in 2007. We eventually ran out of time in Oregon and were forced to make some hard decisions about what we could shoot at the time and we had to delay. Thankfully our two principle actors lived here in LA with us, and we were able to finish off the lingering scenes in rapid succession. There will be more videos coming soon that will showcase our festival experience with BLACK. - Seth

This new video showcases the first few days of our week-long shoot in Oregon during the Labor Day week in 2007. Looking at it again, I'm amazed at what we were able to accomplish given the time constraints and the limited resources at our disposal. Hopefully you can get an idea of what a wonderful experience it was to be there doing something we all loved. Our debut short, The Merciful Death of Jonas Blake will be screened at the Anthology Film Archives in New York as a part of a New Filmmakers spring program on June 17th, 2009 at 7:15 PM. This will mark the first time Jonas Blake has played on the East Coast, and it's a great capstone for our debut as a filmmaking team. You can find further information here.

Hey There,

I hope all of you are getting our emails and updates on the new 40 minute short film "Black" We have been spreading the net wide on this one with film festival submissions. We are currently in the purgatory of waiting to hear back. We have expanded our promotional platforms to Facebook and Myspace where "Black" have their own pages.

I'm sure anyone who knows us has already checked those pages feverishly and exhausted the downloads there. We have both a trailer and a scene from "Black" so check that out on either of the links above, or at YOUTUBE.COM.

We would love to hear your thoughts about "Black" or your harsh criticisms as well. We will embrace you as a brother no matter what the outcome.

I wanted to include some photos because that is all you guys look at anyway.

First up some photos from the Halloween tour Seth and I went on. We took some pictures of some of the filming locations used in the 1978 movie directed by John Carpenter. I included some stills from the movie, so you have some kind of reference points. Strangely enough, most of the locations for the film were shot in South Pasadena, Ca doubling for the fictional Haddonfield, Illinois.

The image above is the killer Michael Myer's boyhood home where the infamous opening scene was shot. The image to the right is the house as it stands now in South Pasadena, Ca.
It has a clownish new paint job and the entire house was moved down to the end of the block. Below is a picture of me by the house, doing my best Mike Myers 100 yard stare.

Seth and I also went over to the two main houses in the film, where all the mayhem took place. West Hollywood is the home of these two stately homes that capture that midwest feeling. If you ever go to these locations yourself you will feel transported to Illinois! Los Angeles really has it all in terms of different atmospheres and locales.

The first photo of Annie's house has Michael Myers walking up the steps carrying her dead body and the second photo has an American flag in place of Michael. How nice! Note that this house has changed the most but the porch is a dead giveaway.

(bottom photos) We also tried to recreate the scene in which Michael Myers is seen behind a hedge and scares the daylights out of Laurie. He then escapes out of sight. Here is the scene in the movie and the recreation. How creative!

So we wasted a Saturday and did this and it was surprisingly fun. When you get to the location it really transports you in a way. Sorry it wasn't right on Halloween but heh everyday is Halloween!

Several Shades of Black, Part II

We recently released a new short video on the making of the movie. This is the last one that will cover our trip last summer to Oregon to survey what we had available to us for shooting. Here's a youtube link on that end:

I look back on that period fondly now that it all worked out. However I remember at the time wondering how we would pull everything off. Fittingly, we were expanding the scope with this project and seeing how we'd hold up. The good thing about working continually over the last 3 years is that it has built up a certain emotional stamina that pushes you through. I knew we'd do it, because we'd run this marathon before and this time it was just a matter of adding more miles and maybe a few new hills. Whatever. There's always fear in the back of the head.

Fear is the devil.

Anyhow. I'm working through a finer cut of the movie this week. Patience is a word I repeat often. I'm excited to make this happen but I don't want to get ahead of it and lose the purpose of the whole damn thing. This is an easy trap to fall into I would think. Talk to you soon.

Updates and Thoughts

Hi there everyone.

I know posts and podcast updates are few and far between and so I wanted to clarify for everyone that we are indeed still alive and active. As you may have gathered, we are currently knee-deep in an apocalypse now of post-production, sleep deprivation and interpersonal hostility. The 3 of us at Lullskull LTD. have been working on this particular project for well over a year now, and within about a month and a half we are beginning to fathom the idea of a pinprick that may or may not be a light.

I've been thinking about Hear Me Now Brother this whole time, and Nate and I have both settled on the idea of it continuing. However as you have probably gathered from the site redesign, semi-recent video updates and new subtitle, the purpose of the podcast has morphed. Instead of just being about two dudes in LA climbing a Mount Everest of delusion, we envision the podcast tackling not only our terrible journey, but also tracing the 'progress' of our 'company' as it works it's way through to becoming.. well I mean we want it to be real right?

So what can you expect? Well more audio in the next few weeks and more video in the next few days. We have a series of web docs that are being compiled and the next episode should show up on the feed by the end of the week. Next we hope to dig out the dusty old USB mics and record our thoughts on this whole process; a journey that has been the greatest education we've collectively had in conceiving, planning, shooting and editing a narrative film.

We are all proud of the work we've done in 2007 and 2008 has continued this improbable streak of productivity. I don't know how many listeners we have or whether or it matters to you how we do with this project, but we will continue to put these little dispatches out there as time permits.
Everyone has a secret desire and we hope HMNB can serve as an ongoing account of how we converted that wish into a tangible reality.

Hey guys we are off and running making a movie here. Lullskull Ltd. is going to have a interesting new year this year, As we stop to honor 2007 and move sub-sonically into 2008 we can only drift and ponder life for a few moments. I think each human being has some kind of fabulous change/wish/resolution that seems to spark inside the mind around this time. For myself, I think I will ease into 2008 like a warm bath. I will enjoy, soothe and relax.

I wanted to send off a Blog to all the people that have being following our fandangos. We have gotten super supportive emails and some actual excitement for our next project in particular.

This is the first look at what we were trying to do in Oregon. We assure you the full length short will be out in not long at all. We have all agreed that shooting this last one on video has been such a pleasure because of the awesome turn around time to.Post –Production. It has been going fairly well on that front.

So I hope to hear your feedback and we will keep you updated as we go here.

Hey there. Below I posted some images of the past year that I thought i'd blog over the lines to ya here. My notes are included as well. Hope all are well. -n

A scale model of John Rambo from First Blood caught my eye at this past years Comic Con International in San Diego. I love the sculpted hair.

These two lovely ladies caught my eye as well at the Con, but only for the reason that I might never see anyone else wear these costumes of Rachel and Zora from the movie Blade Runner. I'm pretty sure these girls were paid to dress up, as they were promoting the rerelease of the film at the Con pretty hamfistedly.

I thought this picture would be fun to include because it shows you exactly how tight our 15 plus hour van ride to Oregon was. We see Kathy (our adorable PA) with a small cut on her leg in the foreground. The cut was probaly from climbing in and out of the van. We have Robert and Seriina on either side flanking me and Jason in the front seats. Looks like we are in a moment of shuffling all the shit around in the van so someone can have the trade off of extra foot room. What a ride.

We also had a stow away... Our wonderful full body dummy "Chud" but I would never call him a dummy to his face, he was a killer with the ladies. This photo is of our last day and wonderful packing job we did.

I'll end the Oregon photos with this shot of Kathy. She made the most wonderful Avocado salads for us during production. Here is her working her particular magic on said avocado.

So towards the more restful times of September we celebrated Jason's Birthday. He was in high spirits! even though we blindfolded him and took him to a strange place (or so he thought) We later uncovered his eyes to the New Beverly movie theatre as the opening credits of The Karate Kid played to a full house. This may be the first time Jay will see this photo of himself with Seth and I and the friendly ticket booth lady (Notice her T-shirt)

The Forecast.

I thought it a good time to sit down and write a little blog here. The first bit of news is we have finished the principle photography on our next short “Black”. We shot over six days in Bandon, Oregon and as we expected the landscape and the locales we rented (and lived as a film boot camp) added so much to the project. We were blessed with a cast of wondrously talented and inventive people. The cast members (culled form both Los Angeles,Ca and Portland, Oregon) came together with such enthusiasm for the material that we all became collaborators in this intricate story. We will soon have a video documentary that will be available here via downloadable episodes. These episodes will detail every step of the way, from our previous trip to Oregon while location scouting, selected artwork I created for the film and all the way through to the final stress filled days. Keep an eye and ear out for them.

Hello Everyone, This has been a long time coming I know. We have been pulling double duties as of the beginning of the year. Seth and I and our producer Jason have been designing the new Lullskull website and now we have fashioned the Hear Me Now Brother Blog to match. 2007 has also seen us continuing to promote and distribute our first short The Merciful Death of Jonas Blake which we expect to be playing in a few more festivals by the end of the year. The reactions to our debut short have been overwhelming positive and we can't tell you how much we appreciate all the wonderful words.

On top of all these things we are right in the middle of intense pre production on our next Short "Black" that we will be shooting in Oregon come September. We have started a fundrasing campaign for this short and all information regarding this is linked here: Fundable/Lullskull

We are indeed trying to push ourselves with this next short. We would love for you all to be apart of the next one in some way or form.

This is a music video we completed in early March that was done with Tim Coyne of The Hollywood Podcast. Tim, a longstanding friend of the show, approached us in early October about directing this supplement to his song about male sexual jealousy, and we found time in our schedule to make it happen for him. More information on the making of this video will be forthcoming in future audio podcasts. Also of note is the appearance of the venerable Dan Klass, whose podcast The Bitterest Pill, is a fantastic must-listen affair all around. In fact, I would say that if you listened to Hollywood Podcast, The Pill and HMNB in that order (because we are definitely the Return of the Jedi of that particular trilogy), you'd be getting a good dose of regularly scheduled L.A. Misery.

Anyway, tell us what you think of the video! Right now I can only put it up in iTunes format, but you can expect a higher quality streaming version this weekend. I'm really working hard on that! Hey out there in the dark, just some announcements from the low level hills of Miracle Mile, Ca.

First off, The premiere of "The Merciful Death of Jonas Blake" was a huge success! We had a awesome turnout and an electric amount of fun. The M Bar turned out to be a wonderful place to show this thing, just the size and the style. We were showcased with a few other films from the local LA talent pool and they had some wonderful ideas overall. Good and Bad, like always. The bang of the night was the promotional buttons that Lullskull LTD. made for the screening, A set of eight designs that represented key moments in the film. The button featuring Jonas Blake's gun, was by far the most popular. We will be dispensing these free buttons at all of our future screenings, so please come and get a button while they last. Refer to this page for info about future presentations of "The Merciful Death of Jonas Blake".

Again, a strong hardy Thank You! for all who came out on Thursday, it was a nice way to start it off.

HEAR ME NOW BROTHER! We will be sliding back into a decent routine now and have developed a system to release our episodes more frequently. So here it is, a good look at what we've been working on. The updates have been long in coming, I know. Maybe you assumed we died (there have been many deaths but none of them physical). We've tried multiple times to sit down and actually record a show but it's been incredibly difficult for some reason. Nate will probably give you a few exuses, but believe me there are none.

As for me, I've been editing a friggin' movie man. I've passed up two opportunities to submit this thing to a festival (sorry Brian) and none of it is due to laziness. Seriously, my ass was out in the boonies yesterday collecting sound for this sucker. We have to be incredibly anal with the quality control. You understand. Anyway, I hope you can see where all the effort has been going when you watch this. This is our labor of love and if it doesn't come out good Nathan and I are going to hold hands and jump off a skyscraper together. - Seth

Howdy HEARMENOW listeners.

Episode 6 is completed and we are releasing it on the blog soon. It contains some of the best music (yeah, according to us) of 2005. Remember 2005? It is almost a month behind us now, stuck in the foggy gray matter of short term memory. However Episode 6 will refresh and perhaps revive your listening choices in the new year. Seth and I list our top five favorite albums of 2005. Albums still exist and we could only think of five, so eat em up. Episode 7 will continue the tender farewell to 2005. Listing our favorite Movies (Seth and I are still scrambling to see all the hard to avoid ones) We have been happily surprised by our movie watching of late.

Recently, I've survived the worst flu bug of my life. Shaking and aching my way into the new year. I almost died. Most people will ignore that statement, dismissing it as a simple overexageration. But I mean it, I almost died. Or experienced the preample of death symptoms. Terrible sweaty nights contempting the fragility of the human body.

Well anyway, Nathan here, giving you a little update into our world. I miss you all. 2006 will be flooded with new material: Our film will be completed, we have three new vidcasts in production and we will probally podcast really drunk sometime. That will be fun/strange for you all. Also I finally added my Favorite's list of podcasts. ( found directly to the right of these bloggings)

I included an image from our trip home for Christmas. More to come. It was very cold, yes.

Holiday Happenings

Hello all, Nathan Here.

I thought I’d post a blog updating you all about what is new in the world of Hear Me Now Brother. I am currently home in Michigan for the holidays, Seth will be joining me soon here in the wasteland we call home. I like to kid around a lot, but I'm not kidding you when I say, it's cold here. Fairly Tundra-tastic!

So, some news! Seth and I have recorded two podcasts and are about to upload Part One of our Best Music of 2005 (Music: Best Songs) followed briskly by Part Two (Music: Best Albums). They are almost complete and profoundly informative.

I want to take a moment to spotlight a Podcast Seth and I both love. It is one of the best Movie/Entertainment Podcast out there on the Hi-ways and Bi-ways of podcasting. It is called Cinecast, put out by Sam Hallgren and Adam Kempenaar. Broadcast from Chicago, these two guys review the very current releases along with dipping back into the wealth of cinema's past. I feel they provide a great cross section of trivia, facts, personal anecdotes and overall abundance of film adoration. They brave marathons of unknown genres, just because they never know what they may find. I also wanted to mention that I sent in an email and they incorporated it into their "user feedback" section of the show. (Episode #61 Snake Oil) They have an ongoing series of Top Five's, and in that particular episode they had Top Five greatest Death Scenes. I simply sent in mine and they used it on the show. Thanks guys! Keep up the stellar work, and i'll keep listening.

Hello, this is a dispatch from Seth coming live via the Katrina dimensions. I gladly give you the second installment in the making of our western. This is where the real fun is, trust me. I can't really place where my head was at that day, but you can decide for yourself when you watch it. Our first day of shooting was well documented by a slightly expanded crew (we were reduced in number with each successive shoot; such is the plight of a crew that works for nothing). If you are wondering who is who when you watch this, I'll give you a rundown based on these admittedly crude characteristics:

The Cowboy is Ryan Erke, Jedi Knight and friend of Captain Solo.
The Indian Girl is Angela Hahn from Kansas by way of 19th century Arizona.
The bearded guy is Seth. You can read his Babylon 5 Fan Fic upon request.
The guy with the camera is Nate and he only drinks Bacardi.
The tall man sleeping on his side is Jason and he totally loves Oasis.
The man that slams Ryan with dirt is Elijah and his ass is out cold.
The Asian dude is Nick. I don't know what his take on Cassavetes is.
